Meet Zo: The Heart Behind Mothereze
Can you share the story behind how Mothereze was founded?
Mothereze came from a longing to feel held as a mother, not just as the one doing the holding. I created Mothereze because I couldn’t find a baby carrier that felt like me: modern, minimal, stylish and supportive. I wanted to create something that made me feel confident stepping into motherhood again and again. Mothereze is more that just a baby carrier brand its a movement, a way to carry mothers not just babies. A space to connect, to heal, to laugh and to reclaim your sense of self after giving so much of it away.
What gap in the market did you see that led to launching Mothereze?
As a modern mum, I struggled to find a baby carrier that felt like it truly fit. Mums like us didn’t want to choose between style and function. We wanted both. I wanted to create something that represented the millennial mum, stylish, self aware and craving connection.
Was there a break through moment that made you say ‘Im doing this’
I remember looking in the mirror after my having my son, craving confidence, longing to feel like a woman again, not just a mother. For years, motherhood had blurred my identity, and I knew I wasn’t alone. I created Mothereze to help women rediscover themselves after birth, to feel empowered, stylish and seen in every stage of motherhood.
How do you honour both your role as a mother and your goals as an entrepreneur without loosing yourself in the process?
I honour both by making space for me again. For a long time, motherhood consumed my identity. I gave everything to my children and forgot who I was outside of being a mum, now through Mothereze I’ve found a way to blend purpose and passion. I show up for my kids, but I also show up for myself, building something that reflects who I am as a woman, not just a mother.
How has motherhood and womanhood informed your leadership style and the way you approach business decisions?
Motherhood and womanhood have taught me to trust my gut and lead with my emotions. I’ve learnt that feelings aren’t a weakness, they are strength. I approach business decisions by tuning into what feels right, not just what looks good. I empathise with everyday struggles of motherhood because I have lived them, and that shapes everything I create. My leadership is grounded in intuition, care and a real understanding of what women need.
Supporting women is so important, how do you make space for that in your work?
Supporting women is at the heart of everything I do. Through Mothereze I’ve created more than just a product, I’ve built a space where women feel seen, stylish and supported in every stage of motherhood. I make space by designing with their real lives in mind, by hosting and by sharing honestly, the highs , the lows and the in-betweens. Every decision I make comes back to one question, how does this serve and empower mums?
What message would you love to share with women who are stepping into motherhood and navigation the transition to parenthood?
To all the women stepping into motherhood. This is one on the most powerful transitions you’ll ever go through, and it’s okay if it feels emotional and unfamiliar. Give yourself permission to feel it all! You are not expected to have it all figured out. You are learning, growing and becoming, just like your baby. Don’t lose yourself in the process. Your needs still matter. Your identity still matters. You can be a devoted mother and still honour the woman you where before. Just remember you are doing better than you think
